New Virginia Beach Replacement Windows

If you’re looking to save money and increase your home’s energy efficiency, (and who isn’t?) perhaps you should consider some upgrades in your home. One the best ways to accomplish this goal is by investing in new Virginia Beach replacement windows! New Virginia Beach window replacements come in many different sizes and shapes that can accentuate your home or business. Modern windows have insulation via inert gases like Argon and Krypton. These gases can’t catch fire and are safe for your home.

They are colorless, odorless, and non-toxic. What they do is create a buffer that traps heat when it is cold outside and release heat when it’s hot outside. Argon is the most commonly-used window fill gas because it offers good thermal performance at low cost. Krypton is more effective at reducing heat loss, but is roughly 200 times more expensive than Argon per unit volume. Other gases are sometimes used, which can dampen sound and keep the comings and goings of the neighborhood outside while you enjoy your life inside. The trade off is that these windows don’t have the same level of thermal efficiency that Argon and Krypton have.

Thermal efficiency is measured with two main methods: the U-Factor, and the SHGC. U-Factor measures the rate of heat of a window assembly. The lower the U-factor, the better a window’s resistance to heat flow and the better its insulating abilities.

This U-factor is used by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) is for the whole window, including glazing, frame and spacers. Center-of-glass U-factor is also sometimes referenced, and describes the performance of the glazing alone without the effects of the frame. For most energy efficient windows, the whole window U-factor is higher than the center-of-glass U-factor.

High-performance double-pane windows can have U-factors of 0.30 or lower, while some triple-pane windows can achieve U-factors as low as 0.15.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) measures how much heat from the sun is blocked. SHGC is expressed as a number between 0 and 1. The lower the SHGC, the more your window blocks solar heat gain. Blocking solar heat gain is particularly important during the summer cooling season in Virginia Beach.

If you’re constructing a new home or doing some major remodeling, you should also take advantage of the opportunity to incorporate your window design and selection as an integral part of your whole-house design—an approach for building an energy-efficient home.

Installation

Even the most energy-efficient window must be properly installed to ensure energy efficiency. Therefore, it’s best to have a professional contractor install your new Virginia Beach replacement windows.

Replacement window installation varies depending on the type of window, the construction of the house (wood, masonry, etc.), the exterior cladding (wood siding, stucco, brick, etc.), and the type (if any) of weather-restrictive barrier.
